The Tour de France will start in Germany this year for the fourth time in the history of the race. The German electronic band Kraftwerk will open the Tour de France with a performance of their own “Tour de France.”
Tickets for the Kraftwerk concert in Dusseldorf on July 1, 2017 – the day of the first leg of the 104th Tour de France cycling race – went on sale Monday. The concert will be an outdoor multimedia show and feature special 3D effects, viewable with 3D glasses.
Kraftwerk was personally invited by Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme. Kraftwerk was founded in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1970 and was among the first bands to introduce electronic music to the world. In 2003, Kraftwerk released an album titled “Tour de France” to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tour de France. On July 1, they will perform the entire album, which the band describes as “a music film” that “expresses the sound of 21st-century techno visionaries.”
