The Pearl Izumi PRO Leader III shoes are the very top echelon of footwear offered by Pearl Izumi. These shoes are grand tour proven footwear worn by the BMC cycling team and Tejay van Garderen, two-time top five finisher at the Tour de France.
Category Café has been test ridden these shoes and we can report that they are super comfortable and the power transfer is superb due to low stack height and the stiff carbon sole. Whether maxing out during a sprint or spinning high RPM’s up a climb these shoes feel great and over time you forget you even have them on, they are that comfortable.
On the road making micro fitness adjustments on the fly is simple with the dual Boa dials on the top of the shoe, which offer easy customization in the fit and feel of the shoe.
Pearl Izumi supplies three insole options with the Pearl Izumi PRO Leader III shoes, which allow you to customize the fit of the shoe to negate any pronation bias the user may have. We found the machined contour of the internal carbon base and perforated insole was comfortable, but it is a nice touch that that Pearl Izumi made custom fit a priority in this shoe.
The shoes come in two color options: sleek black with white trim, and the bright red and florescent yellow. We prefer the bright red version as they just look fast and stand out in the sea of black shoes on the market and scene in group rides and racing.
We highly recommend the Pearl Izumi PRO Leader III shoe for the 2017 cycling season.
